The Plymouth Road Runner of 1969 :
In 1969 the Road Runner only got better. In addition to coupe and
hardtop versions, a convertible was added to the Road Runner line
up.
The grille was restyled. No nameplate appeared on the grille. The
taillamps were restyled and insert deeper than previously.
The standard engine remains the same, the 383 with parts of the 440.
The 426 were again in option. The new engine option was a 440 Magnum
with a triple-barrel 440 cid V8. Known as the "440 + 6".
This engine provided acceleration like the Hemi, in fact the Hemi
was just faster, and the 440+6 was half the price of it. Of course,
it still wasn't a Hemi.
On the new options you could order bucket seats.
That year Plymouth's sold up to up 82,109 copies.
Motor Trend found that car so outstanding that they awarded it "Car
of the year" in 1969.
Unfortunately, the public success of the car was not mirrored at
the race. Plymouth didn't even won one race.
